Day 1

 

Podgorica  - Virpazar - Skadar lake - Radevic estate visit - Podgorica

 

Start the tour in the “town on three bridges” – Virpazar, a charming fishing village dating back to the 13th Century located in the picturesque setting of Lake Skadar.  Take a drive to the Radevic family estate for an authentic wine tasting experience in a rural setting. Sample some local wines and wash down the flavours of the day with traditional rakija fruit brandy.

 

 

Day 2 

Podgorica - Monastery Ostrog - Niksic handcraft workshop- Zabljak 

Enter the region of Montenegrin wild beauty – where luscious green forests and panoramic landscapes are coupled with traditional, organic food fresh from the northern region. 

After a hearty breakfast, head north to the Ostrog Monastery, a spiritual Orthodox pilgrimage site and mind-blowing 17th Century church built directly into the vertical cliff face – our Nomaguides can de-brief you on the enchanting history of this chalk-white wonder.

A quick coffee break with splendid views of the Bjeloplavlic plain is followed by a trip to the quirky town of Niksic, where you will pay a visit to a craft shop to learn of the local woodwork trade and have a go at making your own authentic souvenir. 

Niksic packs a great punch for lunch options – once suitably satisfied, we make our way to Zabljak to breathe in the fresh mountain air. 

 

 

Day 3 

 

Zabljak panorama day - Katun visit - Black Lake

 

A full day spent in the breathtaking northern corner of Montenegro. Get lost in the pinewood forests of the highest settlement on the Balkan peninsula, coloured in a spectrum of green shades, contrasted by piercing blue skies and proud mountains. See the mirror-top Black Lake, known as the “Mountain Eyes” of Montenegro.  

Slow the hiking pace with a visit to a traditional family-run Katun to enjoy local gastronomy and homegrown produce and re-fuel after an adventurous morning before taking a panoramic drive back to the hotel.

 

 

Day 4 

 

Zabljak - Djurdjevica Tara bridge - Biograd Lake - Savardak lunch break - Monastery Moraca - Podgorica

 

Appreciate the sights of the monumental Djurdjevica Tara Bridge, standing tall and proud over the UNESCO World Heritage site of Durmitor. Feel the thrill of nature overlooking the Tara Canyon - the second deepest in the world - and descend to splendid Lake Biograd, which found its eternal home surrounded by one of the last European primeval rainforests. Take a hike and enjoy a small picnic on the shores of the largest mountain lake in the country, or hop onto a boat. Pay a visit to an ethno restaurant for an authentic dining experience in rural Montenegro. En route to the capital of Podgorica, emerging from the canyon is Moraca Monastery, one of Montenegro’s most significant spiritual sites. Enjoy the night at cosy Hotel Podgorica overlooking the Moraca river, away from the traffic and hustle of everyday life and recover from a busy day.
